An overview of cloud computing’s development and my thoughts on why it has become such an important issue in today’s IT industry

How has the cloud evolved?

During the 1950s and ’60s, mainframe computers were being used to access the processing power of the mainframes via terminals. Because of the high cost and upkeep of mainframes, these terminals are being used in place of them. In addition, you can’t afford to install a mainframe everywhere, therefore we can use some dumb terminals to access its processing capacity. That was the beginning of the path toward remote computing.

With the emergence of virtualization, the path switched from remote computing to distributed plus remote computing. In order to better divide computing resources, virtualization may be used to host several hosts on a single physical/multiple machine.
The core of cloud computing is virtualization.

As a result, I believe that cloud computing offers several advantages due to its capacity to use dispersed and distant computing.

Some of the advantages I see with cloud computing are as follows:

Having the ability to enlarge and reduce resources as needed is a benefit of elongation.
Recovery — There is no need to be concerned about a catastrophe, as cloud companies will manage everything.
Security — I don’t have to be concerned about security breaches since most cloud companies adhere to industry-standard security requirements.
I can only afford to buy the product if I use more resources, and because utilizing more resources indicates more income, this model seems ideal for startups looking to get off the ground with the bare minimum of funds.
There are no concerns with accessibility, since the services are housed in the cloud, and I may connect from any location that meets the appropriate security criteria.
Self-service: The vast majority of Cloud providers provide self-service options, so I don’t have to speak with a human being to get the services I need.
Convenience: most cloud services are simple to use and integrate with just a few basic setups.

Conclusion: Based on the information shown above, I am certain that cloud computing, along with other emerging technologies like Internet of Things (IoT), virtual reality (VR), and artificial intelligence (AI), will have a significant influence on almost every area of our daily lives. I believe that cloud computing will soon be included in our utility bills, such as our water and gas bills.
